Where are our Thank Yous?

Being apart of a church plant, I have seen many people wearing many hats. Over the course of three years, I have seen people switch hats, take off their hats, or even add a few more. They may not be the right fit for the hat, yet they wear it faithfully.

I have learned that sometimes the “add a boys” aren’t always going to be there. So many people are working behind the scenes faithfully, committing hours each week so that our gathering can run smoothly. The only reason that they spend this much time doing what they do is because they love Jesus and want to serve Him.

When Chris talked this past Sunday about the woman washing Jesus’ feet; how it was purely because she realized what authentic worship truly involved. I started thinking about the many people at Image that have found this type of worship as well. Our thank you’s don’t happen weekly or even monthly, but happen when a life is changed for Jesus Christ.

It is an honor to serve in a church that is teaching “authentic worship”. Image, a church that knows who, what, & where our true thank you’s come from.

Galatians 6:9-10 (The Message)

9-10So let’s not allow ourselves to get fatigued doing good. At the right time we will harvest a good crop if we don’t give up, or quit. Right now, therefore, every time we get the chance, let us work for the benefit of all, starting with the people closest to us in the community of faith.

Purpose in Suffering

My 6 year old, Cody, had surgery this week. He had to have his tonsils and adenoids removed. Although this is a fairly common procedure, the recovery is very painful. As a mother, the only thing that I want to do is to make all his pain go away. However, looking at the “big picture”, I know that this short term pain will eliminate the long term pain of constant infections. God, our Father, feels the exact same way.

There are many women that I know personally who are experiencing a lot of pain right now, pain that earthly medicine can’t heal. God is the only true source that can heal their pain. As sisters in Christ, we need to pray for each other, to be there for one another through these times of sufferings. We also need to remind ourselves that these trials and pains are only temporal. No matter what happens to us in this life, we have the assurance of eternal life, when all suffering will end and all the pain will go away.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 (The Message)

So we’re not giving up. How could we! Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace. These hard times are small potatoes compared to the coming good times, the lavish celebration prepared for us. There’s far more here than meets the eye. The things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow.

Satan can try to beat us down in all sorts of ways, but God tells us that there is purpose in our sufferings….. don’t give up! Your very weakness allows Jesus Christ to strengthen you moment by moment.

Image Church…..a place for All Believers

John 17:20-26 (New International Version)

Jesus Prays for All Believers

20“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: 23I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. 24“Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world. 25“Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. 26I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.”

Thank you for Image, a place that has truly gone back to teaching and preaching the basics….

One Body, Many Parts

1 Corinthians 12:12 says, The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts: and though all it’s parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ.

12:26 If one part suffers, every part suffers with it, if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.

Being a women is very much like this verse. We need to share with one another, to cry and to laugh together.  To serve together……

I have been so blessed these past few months working in the I-Chicks ministry.  There is NO WAY I could do any of this alone. I have seen that in order to glorify Christ and to serve Him faithfully and obediently I need to ask for help. There are women that have so many gifts and when we pull our resources together, there is nothing that we can’t do.

Chad spoke a few weeks ago and told us that as long as we love God, love others, and are being and making disciples, does the rest really matter? That hit me right between the eyes! I realized that nothing else did matter. If I was doing those 3 steps, everything would fall into place.

Gods desire is for us to be obedient and follow. The road that I have traveled may not be the same as you, but our goal should be the same. We are to work together as one, to lead others, to grow and know The Only One. My one and only desire for the I-Chicks ministry is for us to work together so that He may be glorified.

1 Corinthians 31 So whether you eat, drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the Glory of God.

1 Corinthians 12:13 For we were all baptized by one spirit into One body…

Let’s “DO” life together. Let’s love God, love others, and be disciples together. I can’t wait to see what the Lord has in store for us!

Salt and Light

Yesterday, Dr. David Rhodenhizer, preached at Image. He shared with us the story of the Titanic, that there was plenty of room in the life boats, but 1500 people died in the water because the people that were already in the life boats wouldn’t turn around for them. Only one boat turned around and was able to save 6 people. Can you imagine if all of the life boats turned around how many lives could have been saved?

This story has been gnawing at me since yesterday. How many countless lives are going to be lost because I didn’t take the time to turn around and share the gospel? It is unbearable for me to think that someone may spend an eternity in Hell because I was too scared or too busy to turn around.

Dr. Rhodenhizer said that every person is a Network. We do not just affect one person, our actions influence many. It is our obligation as Christians to share with others the story of Jesus and how they can come to know Him as their Savior.

I can allow my insecurities to slip in and make excuses as to why I am not able to share the gospel, but that’s not true…. Acts 1:8 you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Matthew 28:20“And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

The point is, when we become Christians, when we decide to give our lives completely to Christ and accept His free gift of salvation, something changes. We die to ourselves and begin to live for Him. God promises to give us what we need when we need it. All we have to do is be obedient and have faith.

Listen, allow the Holy Spirit to talk to you. Let Him lead you and give you the words to say. Let Him be your “Light” and just turn around.

Losses

My cousin passed away on Friday. She had health problems all of her life and couldn’t escape an infection this time. She was a beautiful women and at the young age of 23 her life here on earth was complete. She attended Cameron University for two years, was a member of the Holy City Easter Pageant for ten years, attended Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church and loved horses and riding. She loved her family and her life.

As I sit here and think about her short life I am reminded that we are all only allotted a certain amount of time and it is up to us as to how we are going to live it.

Jesus came to earth because of God’s love for all of us; no matter what religion, country or culture we were born into He wants fellowship with us. He wants us to experience the mercy and forgiveness that is needed to make us whole.

John 10:10:  “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” This means a changed life from sin to righteousness, the fruit of the Spirit instead of the works of the flesh. These are “love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control” (Gal 5:22-23) Ephesians 5:9: (goodness, righteousness, and truth).

I want to publicly thank my parents for sharing Jesus and His love for me. I know that God has a plan for my life just as He did for my cousin Christina. Christina lived her life to the fullest and I pray that people will remember the legacy that she has left behind. May we each live each day loving God and showing His love and mercy to one another. I will conclude this post with a quote from Dr. Billy Graham “Our days are numbered. One of the primary goals in our lives should be to prepare for our last day. The legacy we leave is not just in our possessions, but in the quality of our lives. What preparations should we be making now? The greatest waste in all of our earth, which cannot be recycled or reclaimed, is our waste of the time that God has given us each day.”

Rest in Peace Chrissy we will miss you.

Excuses

John 4:34-3834“My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work. 35Do you not say, ‘Four months more and then the harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. 36Even now the reaper draws his wages, even now he harvests the crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together. 37Thus the saying ‘One sows and another reaps’ is true. 38I sent you to reap what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labor.”

Just as we need food to feed us and nourish us, our soul needs food and nourishment too. Spiritual nourishment comes from doing God’s will. We are not only to nourish by what we take in, but what we give out for God. What about others?

It is easy to make excuses about sharing the Gospel because it is sometimes out of our comfort zone to witness (especially to our family and friends). I have been on mission trips and jump right in! I share about Jesus and how much He loved me, that He gave His life for me. But have I gone to my neighbor next door with that same vigor?

I believe with all of my heart that I must step out of  my comfort zone and start sharing (even if people look at me like I have three heads). I want to start sowing the seeds for the harvest.

My prayer is that we can share Jesus with our friends, family, and co-workers (who we think aren’t ready to believe) just as easy as a stranger that we know nothing about. God puts people in our lives for a reason. Don’t blow it! Their eternal lives depend on us!

DON’T LEAVE IT ON THE DESK

If someone very close to you needed your help (no one else but you could help them or they would die) would you do it?

My dad sent me this story this morning:

There was a certain Professor of Religion named Dr. Christianson, a studious man who taught at a small college in the western United States. Dr. Christianson taught the required survey course in Christianity at this particular institution..  Every student was required to take this course their freshman year, regardless of his or her major.

Although Dr. Christianson tried hard to communicate the essence of the gospel in his class, he found that most of his students looked upon the course as nothing but required drudgery.  Despite his best efforts, most students refused to take Christianity seriously.  This year, Dr.. Christianson had a special student named Steve.  Steve was only a freshman, but was studying with the intent of going onto seminary for the ministry.  Steve was popular, he was well liked, and he was an imposing physical specimen.  He was now the starting center on the school football team, and was the best student in the professor’s class.

One day, Dr. Christianson asked Steve to stay after class so he could talk with him. “How many push-ups can you do?”  Steve said, “I do about 200 every night.” “200? That’s pretty good, Steve,” Dr. Christianson said. “Do you think you could do 300?” Steve replied, “I don’t know…. I’ve never done 300 at a time.” “Do you think you could?” again asked Dr. Christianson. “Well, I can try,” said Steve. “Can you do 300 in sets of 10? I have a class project in mind, and I need you to do about 300 push-ups in sets of ten for this to work.  Can you do it? I need you to tell me you can do it,” said the professor. Steve said, “Well… I think I can…yeah, I can do it.” Dr. Christianson said, “Good! I need you to do this on Friday. Let me explain what I have in mind.”

Friday came, and Steve got to class early and sat in the front of the room.  When class started, the professor pulled out a big box of donuts. No, these weren’t the normal kinds of donuts, they were the extra fancy BIG kind, with cream centers and frosting swirls.  Everyone was pretty excited it was Friday, the last class of the day, and they were going to get an early start on the weekend with a party in Dr. Christianson’s class. Dr. Christianson went to the first girl in the first row and asked, “Cynthia, do you want to have one of these donuts?” Cynthia said, “Yes.” Dr. Christianson then turned to Steve and asked, “Steve, would you do ten push-ups so that Cynthia can have a donut?” “Sure!” Steve jumped down from his desk to do a quick ten.  Then Steve again sat in his desk.  Dr. Christianson put a donut on Cynthia’s desk. Dr. Christianson then went to Joe, the next person, and asked, “Joe, do you want a donut?” Joe said, “Yes.”  Dr. Christianson asked, “Steve would you do ten push-ups so Joe can have a donut?” Steve did ten push-ups, Joe got a donut.  And so it went, down the first aisle, Steve did ten push-ups for every person before they got their donut.

Walking down the second aisle, Dr. Christianson came to Scott.  Scott was on the basketball team, and in as good condition as Steve.  He was very popular and never lacking for female companionship. When the professor asked, “Scott do you want a donut?” Scott’s reply was, “Well, can I do my own push-ups?” Dr. Christianson said, “No, Steve has to do them.” Then Scott said, “Well, I don’t want one then.” Dr. Christianson shrugged and then turned to Steve and asked, “Steve, would you do ten push-ups so Scott can have a donut he doesn’t want?” With perfect obedience Steve started to do ten push -ups. Scott said, “HEY! I said I didn’t want one!” Dr. Christianson said, “Look! This is my classroom, my class, my desks, and these are my donuts.  Just leave it on the desk if you don’t want it.” And he put a donut on Scott’s desk. Now by this time, Steve had begun to slow down a little.  He just stayed on the floor between sets because it took too much effort to be getting up and down.  You could start to see a little perspiration coming out around his brow.

Dr. Christianson started down the third row. Now the students were beginning to get a little angry.  Dr. Christianson asked Jenny, “Jenny, do you want a donut?” Sternly, Jenny said, “No.” Then Dr. Christianson asked Steve, “Steve, would you do ten more push-ups so Jenny can have a donut that she doesn’t want?” Steve did ten….Jenny got a donut. By now, a growing sense of uneasiness filled the room.  The students were beginning to say, “No!” and there were all these uneaten donuts on the desks. Steve also had to really put forth a lot of extra effort to get these push-ups done for each donut.  There began to be a small pool of sweat on the floor beneath his face, his arms and brow were beginning to get red because of the physical effort involved. Dr. Christianson asked Robert, who was the most vocal unbeliever in the class, to watch Steve do each push up to make sure he did the full ten push-ups in a set because he couldn’t bear to watch all of Steve’s work for all of those uneaten donuts.  He sent Robert over to where Steve was so Robert could count the set and watch Steve closely.

Dr. Christianson started down the fourth row.  During his class, however, some students from other classes had wandered in and sat down on the steps along the radiators that ran down the sides of the room. When the professor realized this, he did a quick count and saw that now there were 34 more students in the room.  He started to worry if Steve would be able to make it. Dr. Christianson went on to the next person and the next and the next. Near the end of that row, Steve was really having a rough time.  He was taking a lot more time to complete each set.

Steve asked Dr. Christianson, “Do I have to make my nose touch on each one?” Dr. Christianson thought for a moment, “Well, they’re your push-ups. You are in charge now..  You can do them any way that you want.”  And Dr.Christianson went on.. A few moments later, Jason, a recent transfer student, came to the room and was about to come in when all the students yelled in one voice, “NO! Don’t come in! Stay out!” Jason didn’t know what was going on.  Steve picked up his head and said, “No, let him come.” Professor Christianson said, “You realize that if Jason comes in you will have to do ten push-ups for him?” Steve said, “Yes, let him come in.  Give him a donut.”Dr. Christianson said, “Okay, Steve, I’ll let you get Jason’s out of the way right now. Jason, do you want a donut?” Jason, new to the room, hardly knew what was going on.  “Yes,” he said, “give me a donut.” “Steve, will you do ten push-ups so that Jason can have a donut?” Steve did ten push-ups very slowly and with great effort. Jason, bewildered, was handed a donut and sat down.

Dr. Christianson finished the fourth row, and then started on those visitors seated by the heaters.  Steve’s arms were now shaking with each push-up in a struggle to lift himself against the force of gravity.  By this time sweat was profusely dropping off of his face, there was no sound except his heavy breathing; there was not a dry eye in the room. The very last two students in the room were two young women, both cheerleaders, and very popular. Dr. Christianson went to Linda, the second to last, and asked, “Linda, do you want a doughnut?” Linda said, very sadly, “No, thank you..” Professor Christianson quietly asked, “Steve, would you do ten push-ups so that Linda can have a donut she doesn’t want?” Grunting from the effort, Steve did ten very slow push-ups for Linda. Then Dr. Christianson turned to the last girl, Susan.  “Susan, do you want a donut?”

Susan, with tears flowing down her face, began to cry.  “Dr. Christianson, why can’t I help him?” Dr Christianson, with tears of his own, said, “No, Steve has to do it alone; I have given him this task and he is in charge of seeing that everyone has an opportunity for a donut whether they want it or not. When I decided to have a party this last day of class, I looked at my grade book.  Steve here is the only student with a perfect grade. Everyone else has failed a test, skipped class, or offered me inferior work.. Steve told me that in football practice, when a player messes up he must do push-ups. I told Steve that none of you could come to my party unless he paid the price by doing your push-ups.  He and I made a deal for your sakes.” “Steve, would you do ten push-ups so Susan can have a donut?” As Steve very slowly finished his last push-up, with the understanding that he had accomplished all that was required of him, having done 350 push-ups, his arms buckled beneath him and he fell to the floor.

Dr. Christianson turned to the room and said, “And so it was, that our Savior, Jesus Christ, on the cross, plead to the Father, ‘Into thy hands I commend my spirit..’  With the understanding that He had done everything that was required of Him, He yielded up His life.  And like some of those in this room, many of us leave the gift on the desk uneaten.” Two students helped Steve up off the floor and to a seat, physically exhausted, but wearing a thin smile. “Well done, good and faithful servant,” said the professor, adding, “Not all sermons are preached in words.”

Turning to his class, the professor said, “My wish is that you might understand and fully comprehend all the riches of grace and mercy that have been given to you through the sacrifice of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ..  He spared not only His Begotten Son, but gave Him up for us all, for the whole Church, now and forever.  Whether or not we choose to accept His gift to us, the price has been paid.”

“Wouldn’t you be foolish and ungrateful to leave it lying on the desk?”

I was touched as I read this story. As a mother there is nothing that I would not do for my children.  As our Father, God showed us that He loves us so much that he  gave his only son, Jesus, to die on the cross for our (past, present, and future) sins so that we could have an eternity with Him.  He gave us this free gift all we have to do is accept it.

Disciple?

The goal of a disciple is to be like Jesus. Be a doer of the word (Matthew 7:21-27) Love others as Jesus loves you (John 3:34-35)

Disciple=Learner/ Student       Disciple=Doer/Teacher

I am learning that being a disciple is not a job that you do alone. You do it together. Forgive me if you already knew this,  I just wanted to share some things that I am learning and hopefully it will help others too. I would love for you to share your thoughts on this subject!

I thought that being a disciple was some hard task that I could eventually learn to do. But it’s not, anyone and everyone that has accepted Jesus in to there lives as there Savior should want to be Christs disciple.

These are the things that I am learning:

Is there a cost to be a disciple? YES!

Are there rewards? YES!

Are there Blessings? YES YES YES!

The disciple is not greater than his master, but everyone whose learning is complete will be like his master. Luke 6:40 To be Christs disciple is to strive to be like Him.

Remember disciple = learner = doer= disciple. It’s a revolving door. The great part of this is that we get to do it together! There have been some really great influences that I have had in my life……still do. I have been thinking about how they taught me to read the Bible, to study Gods word, and as a result I have grown in my relationship with Christ. In turn, I need to take what I have been taught by Gods word and share with others (see my revolving door analogy). :)

We need to help each other learn to follow Christs example. To take up our cross, to die to self and our selfish desires, and to daily live for Jesus.

I.  The Cost:

1. Jesus must come 1st! Matthew 10:34-37

2. We must be willing to forsake all to follow Christ. NOTHING can take precedent over Him and his will for us!

II. The Rewards both for the future and the present are AMAZING!!!!

1. We can look forward to an eternity with God! No more sorrowno more pain and death. Revelation 21:1-8

2. We are in the Family of God, which is able (if need be) to replace our physical family. We have the Abiding love of God that can cast out fear. John 15:9

3.We have a peace that can only come from His Spirit indwelling in our hearts John 14:27

4. We have joy that can lift our spirits when are anxious. Psalms 94:19

I looked up the meaning of  Disciple in the dictionary:

–noun

1. Religion.

a. one of the 12 personal followers of Christ.
b. one of the 70 followers sent forth by Christ. Luke 10:1.
c. any other professed follower of Christ in His lifetime.
2. any follower of Christ.
3. (initial capital letter) a member of the Disciples of Christ.
4. a person who is a pupil or an adherent of the doctrines of another; follower: a disciple of Freud.

To be known as a follower of Christ, to have people see the evidence that Christ Jesus is in my life, to see the fruits of the Spirit…..what an honor and a priveldge. Let’s be disciples together!

Transparent?

I’ve been told more times than I can count that I am an emotional person (still don’t know if that is a good or bad thing).  When I was pregnant I would cry at Hallmark commercials (still do)!  I can’t help but to wear my emotions on my proverbial sleeve. I have always been told that you will know just by looking at me if I am happy or sad.

I was sitting and thinking about my being an “emotional person” and thought if  I am that transparent with my emotions, am I just as transparent with my relationship with Christ? Can you look at me and immediately tell that something is different? Can you tell that the Holy Spirit is indwelling in me? Oh I hope so! I want my light to shine so brightly that people can’t help but see Christ through me. So, I started to list some physical differences that show my moods.
When I am happy:
1. My eyes sparkle
2. I am smiling or laughing
3. I have an extra “spring” in my step

When I am sad:
1. My eyes are dull (maybe even red from crying)
2. I am not smiling
3. There is no “spring in my step (my shoulders are probably hanging low)

How can I be as physically transparent with my faith as I am with my emotions? Galatians 5 22-23 says but the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

OK, so how do I show these  fruits? My reaction to actions. Every time a situation arises and I have been “attacked” my reaction is going to show who I truly am. My greatest desire is to let Jesus be my light. I want the world to see a difference in me. If I have hurt someone I want to be able to be humble and ask for forgiveness not allow my pride to lash out.

People are going to see me as I truly am. I just hope that they see Jesus just as clearly as my mood. I want to show the world the love of Christ without  saying a word but through my actions.

Ephesians 4:29-32 (New International Version)

29Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. 30And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. 32Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
